Bella the Ballerina

Bella the Ballerina

Bella was a brilliant dancer...

People flocked from miles around to watch her perform, and they always said she was the best dancer they had ever seen. She would twirl this way, and spin that way until the audience were dizzy with excitement! But Bella hadn't always been good at dancing. In fact, she was the worst dancer in her class until she stumbled upon a pair of magic ballet slippers a year ago. They shimmered magically in the light, tempting her, and she knew she had to have them. As soon as Bella put them on, she began to pirouette and plié more gracefully than anyone had ever seen, turning her into a true ballerina.

Everyone in her ballet class was amazed, and before she knew it, our little ballerina had offers from the best dance academies in the world. Every day she would receive phone calls begging her to perform in the West End, or offers of agents to mange her career. Bella didn't know where to begin! A few weeks after she found the magic slippers, Bella was recognised everywhere she went. Everyone loved her and how humble she was about her talent. She soon could want for nothing, as she had anything and everything she could ever want.

But Bella felt guilty. She'd become an overnight success and achieved everything she had always dreamed about. But she hadn't done it on her own merits. It was all because of the slippers. Take the slippers away, and Bella was no longer a ballerina with talent. As time wore on, she grew to hate the slippers. They were a symbol of everything she had never done herself.

She rang up her agent one night. "I don't want to do this anymore," she said.

"What? The show?" her agent replied.

"All of it," Bella said miserably. "It's not me. I want to work my way up."

"You can't be serious," said her agent. "You're the most famous dancer ever! Don't throw that away!"

Bella put the phone down, and instantly felt better. From now on, she would learn how to dance and be rewarded for her own achievements. She practised hard, day in, day out, until she could at least dance to an acceptable level.

But sometimes, in the dead of night, she'd sneak to her closet and put the slippers on. After all, how often do you come across a pair of magic ballet slippers?
