Farm Yard Fun

Farm Yard Fun

Fun with the farm yard animals

Bern and Matthew's Farm was one of the best run farms in the valleys. Farmer Bern was brilliant with the animals, and Farmer Matthew handled the business side of things. But one day, when Farmer Matthew was away at a meeting, Farmer Bern fell ill. "Dog," Farmer Bern said to his trusty dog. "I need you to look after the farm for me today. I'm too ill to work." Dog nodded and set to work. How hard could it be?

First of all, the chickens needed feeding. Dog grabbed the big bag of bird feed and tried pulling it with his teeth. He pulled and pulled, but the bag wouldn't budge. Eventually, all Dog managed to do was rip the bag and send bird feed flying everywhere.

"You look like you could use some help," said Horse. Dog looked up to see Horse watching him with amusement.

"Oh please, Horse. I'd be ever so grateful."

Horse nudged a new bag of bird feed with his nose, and flipped it expertly onto his back. He carried it to the chicken pens, where he dropped it off. "Thank you, Horse," Dog said, and he ripped the new bag open.

"No problem," Horse said, and trotted away.

The next job was milking the cows. Without opposable thumbs, Dog had no idea how he was meant to perform this task. He entered the cow shed.

"Where is Farmer Bern?" Cow asked.

"He's ill and he's left me in charge," Dog said. "But I have no idea how to milk a cow."

"Don't worry, I can help," Cow said. "Girls! We'll have to milk ourselves." Cow proceeded to push the cow nearest to her, who fell into all the other cows in the line. They all began pushing each other until their udders were spraying everywhere!

The milk was going all over the floor. Dog grabbed the handle of the bucket with his teeth, and placed it in the middle of the cows.

"Thank you Cows," Dog said.

Finally, Dog had to pick the apples from the trees. But he wasn't tall enough, and there was no way he could climb a ladder. Dog wandered over to the garage, where the shiny new tractor sat, itching to be used.

Dog climbed onto the tractor. "What does this button do?" He said, pressing the big red button. The engine sprung to life. Dog put his paw on the pedal, and off he went!

Have you ever seen a dog driving a tractor? He wasn't very good at it! Five times he drove past the apple trees, and destroyed most of the field before managing to park in the right place. He jumped from the tractor at the trees until he'd knocked a decent number of apples off. He put them in a basket, and put the basket onto the tractor.

As the sun set, Dog returned to the house. He was so tired that he collapsed on the doorstep. Farmer Bern came down then, and shook his head in wonder at the work Dog had done.

"Oh Dog. I didn't expect you to do my work! I just wanted you to keep guard!"

Dog looked up at his owner, and would have cried if it wasn't for the big juicy steak he received as a reward. He ate it up quick before Farmer Bern saw the mess he'd made!
